The Best of CES 2013. Electronic Heaven for Gadget Geeks.

I swear, one day I will make the pilgrimage to Las Vegas- not for the casinos, not for the shows and not for the glitz, glamor or gambling.

No, I will make my trip to the desert of southern Nevada for one reason- the massive Consumer Electronics Show. So large only Las Vegas can accommodate the attendees, the CES is the annual presentation of what's new and what's coming to the U.S. in the form of electronics, accessories, computers, phones and more.

Companies of all sizes present the latest in their offerings for the coming year and tens of thousands of attendees flock to the booths to grope, pinch, inspect and otherwise drool over a seemingly unlimited number of products.

Some of the products will be a hit, some will never be seen again and some will be vaporware (constantly promised but never seen on the open market). Newly introduced televisions like the recent 4k advances are very popular. Also,  video games, tablets, cell phones, wrist watches, software and even kitchen ovens premiere here for the gadget-hungry public.
This watch will make people beg you for the time.

The media coverage for this event is also massive. Press from the around the globe descend to have a peep at everything and they report on what they see, like and want. In fact, the show "opens" the week before just to accommodate the press before the real show opens to the general public. The good news is that if you can't make the CES show yourself, there's no shortage of journalists to show you the hottest in... well, everything!
I said everything!

For a great look at some of the best products at the show, engadget.comwired.com and ubergizmo.com what they think is the future consumer available electronics for the next year.

And remember, look for me on the floor next year!

The best products of CES 2012 or how I'll drain my bank account in the next 12 months.

What is the newest, best and most desirable electronics for the rest of this year? Find out in Las Vegas at the 2012 CES. However, there's just one problem...

The 2012 Consumer Electronics Show is now over. For those who don't know, the CES show is the world's largest show dedicated to introducing the world to the latest electronic offerings from thousands of companies, large and small. If you go to Vegas now, all you'll find is a huge, empty convention hall. A week ago, you would have found hundreds of thousands of geeks...er, enthusiasts seeking out the new and the best products out there.

Whatever it is, I want it.

Not to worry, though. With all of the goodies, gadgets and electronic gee-wiz gizmos announced at the show, PCmag.com has collected together their opinion of the best and most promising products to make their debut at the show and has collected them together for your perusal. The products run the gamut from the best phone to the greatest tablet to the finest camera they could fine after four days at the show.

The list is broken into catagories like laptops, TVs and gaming, among others. It's hard to come up with a short list due to the volume of products, so the article is pretty thorough. But, if you're a gadget nut like me, the article doesn't run nearly long enough.

Go to PCmag.com here to see the what 2012 will offer when it comes to the I-want and the must-have in electronics.

I'm writing a new column!

As some of you may or may not know, I work in television news. I've been a news videographer for more than 20 years. Doing this job involves a lot of electronics and gadgets and that is probably where my love of gizmos comes from.

For much of that time, I was a chief photographer- a leader of a staff of video journmalists and expected to be the expert in all things video.

Well, there's a new website in town called the 247 newsroom. It's a website by and for video news professionals and the point is to share and help each other to be better at what we do. Anyone can visit, its free and you might get a bit insight into what goes on in the world of local TV news.

Go here to see it now.

New Apple computers for 2011- Is this the best yet?

Most of the world uses computers based on Windows but you wouldn't know it if you ever spoke to an Apple fan. This species of computer user is known to be both loyal and rabidly interested in all things Apple. Normally, they own an iPhone, an iPod, a Mac computer, Mac TV, etc. This person is known as an "Apple Fanboy".

Faster, smarter but definitely not cheaper.

Well, the fan base just got some new candy for them to digest and drool over until the new iPhone and iPads are introduced in the next few weeks. It's been about a year since Apple updated their computer line and today they announced a host of improvements, changes and new products to the lineup for 2011.

Macworld.com has the facts on today's announcement and what it means for the Apple faithful who look forward to paying much more than anyone else for their computers because they are convinced that there is nothing better in the world for them.

Go to Macworld.com now to see what all the fuss is about and maybe you'll catch the Apple bug too.

The Future of Automotive Tech- Is your Car a Rolling PC?

My first car was a 1979 Chevy Monza with a 231 cubic inch V-6 and no air conditioning. However, it did come with an AM radio. Let's revisit that again- it came with an AM only radio. I had to live with that for about 6 months (ah, teenage impatience) until I could save enough money from my job at Jack-in-the-Box to buy a Craig AM/FM/Cassette with two speakers. And that was the extent of the technology in my car.

Where's the Craig AM/FM radio?

That's no longer the case in today's cars. Now, you can buy new cars with built in computers, intergrated wifi hotspots and voice contolled accessories that recognize 10,000 different phrases. But, even that is not the cutting edge anymore.

I wrote a blog post about a week ago regarding the Consumer Electronics Show with all of the whizbangery for consumers at home. But there's a substantial portion of the show dedicated to auto electronics that make a rolling wifi hotspot seem like my old AM radio.

Insideline.com has the scoop on all of the latest news on the best gadgets for the car offered at CES last week. Go here to see the latest tech for your ride.

Oh, remember that Chevy Monza? It caught fire and burned up, but that's a story for another day.

The latest CES news- wanna, gotta, must have electronics for the future!

The annual CES show is in full swing as I write this- the full name is the Consumer Electronics Show and takes up the majority of the convention space in Las Vegas. It's the show for geeks worldwide who covet and are interested in the future products for the home, gaming, entertainment, autos and just making our live easier and more interesting. This is the cutting edge of consumer electronics about to hit the commercial market and available for purchae soon.

Many national and international companies premiere their newest and greatest electronic products each year at CES and this year is no different. Hundreds of thousands of attendees roam the convention grounds, seeking out the newest "must-have" gizmo that will be all the rage in the next 12 months.

This year, there's a great emphasis on tablet computing that will compete with Apple's iPad for the consumer dollar. Most of the tablets are based on the Android operating system already in use in smartphones. This particular flavor of Android is specialized for tablet use and will be available for approximately 30-50% less than the iPad.

There's also computer advances, 3D TV without glasses and other wonders.

To see comprehensive coverage of the future click here. Cnet.com has the latest news and analysis of what's coming to a store near you. It's like taking a time machine into the future to see what will be the hottest products for 2011.

Geeks rejoice!
